Flow Ropes

  • As experts in our field, we've helped thousands of people start their rope flow journey. Through our years of experience, we have found a similarity in flow ropes the same way we do with clothing. This example has helped us help flowmies all over the world!

Throughout the course of this page, there will be some decisions you will have to make. We created a few Learning Points to encourage room for exploration and excitement, rather than feeling doubt. Because really, we get it! It's a lot of choices that you have to make.

Learning Point #1: "Flow Ropes are Like Clothing"

It is usually easier to understand flow ropes when we think of it as clothing.
Some people wear a fitted shirt, some prefer a loose fit.

In rope flow, this can look like a 5'2 flowmie using a 9 ft rope (extra long for the height) OR someone who's 6 ft using a 7 ft rope (extra short for the height).

Neither is better than the other. Neither is wrong or right. Which brings us to the next point....

Learning Point #2: "All Is Preference"

Our size chart, length chart, and recommendations are built from years of experience serving the rope flow community. We encourage you to use them as a trusted starting point—but remember, they are ultimately recommendations, not rules.

While our recommended guidance consistently receives positive feedback and helps most people find the right fit, rope flow is a highly personal practice. What feels perfect for one person may feel completely different for another. When it comes to your ropes, personal preference will always matter most.

Learning Point #3: "Experience Shapes Opinion."

Once you spend time with your flow rope, you will naturally form your own taste and preference. And as you move through your journey, you will naturally evolve.

This can look like exploring a shorter, longer, thinner, or thicker rope down the road.

Now let's get to the next part!

  • Flow ropes come in a wide variety of styles, and one of the biggest differences is rope thickness. At SLUSHROPES, when we refer to a rope's size, we're talking about its thickness (diameter)—not its length.

If you're just getting started, we highly recommend beginning with our "Starter Size" ropes for a lighter feel, or our "Standard Size" ropes, the most commonly used size among rope flow practitioners worldwide.

If you are interested in a medium thickness rope, try out our "Protohype Size" (our top selling size, medium thickness)!

While there is no right or wrong size, we generally discourage choosing a heavy rope as your first rope. In our experience, the added weight can make learning more difficult and may even encourage poor technique during the early stages of your rope flow journey.

Our size chart and recommendations are based on years of serving the rope flow community, but remember: they're recommendations, not rules. The best rope is ultimately the one that feels right in your hands.

  • Length refers to how long your rope is.

Our length comes in at an 8 FT Standard Length - the length we make as stock.

We proudly offer shorter or longer lengths, free of charge when you Shop Slush!

For beginners, it is typically best to start with an 8 FT or 9 FT length. You will need "extra room" to dodge the rope when learning. As you progress, it will be easier to navigate a "fitted rope".

Below is our recommendation, and should only be treated as such. For our flowmies with a wider build, we suggest getting a longer length especially if you are in between.

    Rope Length Recommendations:

    • 7 FT (XS) -  2.13 m

    Height of 4'7 to 5'2 (140 – 157 cm)

    • 7.5 FT (S) - 2.29 m

    Height of 4'9 to 5'4 (145 – 163 cm)

    • 8 FT (REGULAR) - 2.44 m

This is the SLUSHROPES standard length, meaning this is the length that fits most and preferred.

    • 8.5 FT (L)- 2.59 m

    Height of 5'7 to 6' (170 – 183 cm)

    • 9 FT (XL) - 2.74 m

Height of 5'9 and up (175 cm and up)

  • Since you have figured out your Size and your Length, now it's time to choose your rope.

As a word of encouragement, we highly suggest that you go for the rope that you feel most attracted to.

Sometimes, it is as simple as the color or the name of the rope.

Because you are new, your opinion from what you want out of a rope is yet to be formed.

Your first rope will naturally build your preference and taste throughout time.

Once you get some more experience, it will be easier to fine tune recommendations based on specs and feel.
